Small Business Infrastructure Modernization

Replaced aging physical servers with a Proxmox virtualization cluster, reducing hardware footprint and improving reliability.

Proxmox Networking Linux Docker

Challenge

A small professional services firm was running critical business applications on aging tower servers with no redundancy, inconsistent backups, and no monitoring. Hardware failures had caused data loss and unplanned downtime. Replacing hardware on a one-for-one basis would have been expensive and solved nothing structurally.

Approach

Designed and deployed a two-node Proxmox cluster using new server hardware sized for their workload with room to grow. Migrated existing workloads to VMs, containerized appropriate services with Docker, and implemented automated backups to both local storage and an offsite target. Added basic monitoring with alerting so issues are caught before they become outages.

Results

All existing workloads were migrated with no data loss and minimal downtime. The client went from zero redundancy to a setup where any single hardware failure is survivable without data loss. Backup recovery has been tested and verified. Hardware costs were lower than direct replacement because consolidation reduced the number of physical machines required.
